AZAM-PETRONAS WRITERS AWARDS 2009

AZAM organised a roundtable on enhancing the employability of today’s graduate on 5 th August 2009 in Kuching. The activity was funded by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) of Germany. The roundtable with the title “Boosting the Calibre of Today’s Graduates” was the second AZAM-KAS roundtable held this year. It was attended by 50 participants comprising officers from relevant government agencies, representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), institutions of higher learning, civil society organisations (CSOs), members of corporate and private sectors and mem bers of the media. The roundtable focused on the issue of unemployability of many graduates in today’s job market from the employer’s perspectives .

AZAM-PETRONAS WRITERS AWARDS 2009

The said competition is sponsored by PETRONAS for RM 45 000.00. The writing competition is open to all Sarawakians centering on the themes of 45 years of progress in Malaysia and the 2 nd Wave of Development of Sarawak targeting participants from the media practitioners, students and public. Except for the media category, all entries will only be in English. Apart from features, the entries will be for essay writing, comic strips and digital picture story. The closing date has been postponed to 16 th October 2009 due to good response from the target groups to welcome and encourage more entries to be submitted.

AZAM GO GREEN GENERATION! : T-SHIRT DESIGN CHALLENGE

AZAM is organizing the T-shirt design competition and was launched on 11 th September 2009 by Yang Berhormat Dr. Abang Haji Abdul Rauf bin Abang Haji Zen, the Assistant Minister of Environment Sarawak. The theme for the competition is 'Am Green, Am Hip' and it is aimed to promote greater awareness and participation among the public especially young generation-on the importance of conserving the environment. This competition is a platform to encourage younger generations to think and act green in expressing their ideas and conveying the intended message through creative arts and design. The competition is divided into three categories- primary and secondary students and public. The closing date for the competition is 16 th October 2009.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

AZAM INTEGRITY AMBASSADORS PROGRAMME FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

AZAM is to hold a programme for youths and young professionals for 6 days in Santubong in November (21 st-26 th). Among of the objectives of the residential programme are to enhance awareness and understanding of the concept of integrity, develop personal commitment and action plan to support and build a community of future leaders and promote an ethical and value-based work culture. This programme is funded by KAS of Germany.

SEMINAR ON ENHANCING GRADUATES CAPACITY AND CAPABILITY

AZAM is to hold a State seminar in collaboration with Center of Modern Management (CMM). This capacity building seminar will be organized by the Human Resource Management Unit from the Chief Minister’s Department in late November. AZAM’s role is to conceptualize the seminar programme and content. It is a follow-up of AZAM’s roundtable on Sarawak roundtable on graduates “Boosting the Calibre of Today’s Graduates”. AZAM is targeting 300 participants to attend this one-day seminar.

ROUNDTABLE ON SCORE: BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES

A roundtable on SCORE is to be held on 27 th October 2009 in Kuching by AZAM in partnership with KAS. The roundtable is to provide a platform for selected stakeholders to hold initial discussions on the socio-economic benefits, impacts and challenges in the implementation of SCORE. AZAM is targeting 40-50 participants including government agencies, private/corporate sectors, institutions of higher learning and non-profit organizations to attend the said roundtable.

SEMINAR ON SCORE: BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES

An AZAM-KAS seminar on SCORE is scheduled for late November or early December 2009 in Kuching. This seminar is a follow-up to the Roundtable on SCORE on the same topic targeting a wider range of participants (about 60-70). It is to be the last AZAM-KAS activity for the 2009.

MEDIA BRIEFING & DIALOGUE ON SCORE

AZAM in partnership with the State Planning Unit (SPU) is to organize a media briefing on SCORE in Sibu tentatively in early November 2009. The briefing will be conducted by YBhg Datu Haji Ismawi Haji Ismuni, the Director of SPU who is also the Chairman of AZAM’s Communication Programme Committee. The briefing is to disseminate information on SCORE to the local media. Similar briefing and dialogue will be held in Bintulu in November.

HARI RAYA GATHERING: RAYA KAMPUNG@AZAM

On 17 th October 2009, AZAM is to hold a social gathering in conjunction with 2009’s Hari Raya celebration. The gathering is to promote rapport among members of AZAM. With the theme Kampung Raya@AZAM, this gathering will be arranged according to kampong ambience. Among the interesting activities are lucky draws, live band entertainment, Raya games and Raya ‘Catwalk’ Show.
