AZAM organised a roundtable on enhancing the employability of today’s graduate on 5 th August 2009 in Kuching. The activity was funded by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) of Germany. The roundtable with the title “Boosting the Calibre of Today’s Graduates” was the second AZAM-KAS roundtable held this year. It was attended by 50 participants comprising officers from relevant government agencies, representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), institutions of higher learning, civil society organisations (CSOs), members of corporate and private sectors and mem bers of the media. The roundtable focused on the issue of unemployability of many graduates in today’s job market from the employer’s perspectives .
RANDAU AGENDA SOSIAL
AZAM in partnership with KAS organised a forum called “Randau Agenda Sosial” on 30 th July 2009 in Betong. The event was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation Sarawak and the Resident’s Office Betong. About 50 participants comprising representatives of relevant government agencies, non-government organisations (NGOs), Parent- Teacher Associations (PTA), school authorities and also members of the media attended the forum which focused on social issues. The forum was one of AZAM’s efforts to engage the local community to discuss with the relevant agencies on ways to curb the social ills in Betong division.
WORKSHOP ON MANAGEMENT OF COMMUNITY LEADERS
AZAM coordinated the above workshop in collaboration with the Human Resource Management Unit from the Chief Minister’s Department on “The Management of Community Leaders”, which was held from 22nd to 23rd July 2009, Kuching.
115 participants including Deputy Residents (Social), District Officers, other relevant officers from all Resident and District Offices, the State Attorney General’s Chamber and, community leaders attended the workshop.
The workshop was given the theme “Effective Grassroots Leadership in Sarawak in the 21 st Century” with the aims to discuss ways to boost effective leadership among community leaders; enhance understanding among Administrative Officers on the policies and the processes of managing issues related to community leaders and to examine how today’s development un urban and rural areas influence and affect the roles and functions of community leaders.
WORKSHOP ON BRIDGING COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION GAPS – EFFECTIVE ICT UTILISATION
AZAM and KAS organized a workshop on “Bridging Communication and Information Gaps – Effective ICT Utilisation” from 7th to 8th August 2009 in Santubong. The workshop was attended by 30 participants from various government agencies, universities, representatives of grassroots communities, youth, ICT service providers and members of the media. Among the issues discussed were the challenges faced to disseminating the information to the rural community through ICTs.
