A partnership that was forged in 2001, it has brought the image of the competition to a higher level. The collaboration also mirrors a smart partnership between an NGO and a private corporation, a partnership which has development and nation-building in mind.

.: WRITERS Award :.

First held in the mid 1980s. the Awards aims to encourage media practitioners and the public to write on development efforts in Sarawak, thus enhancing development awareness amongst the people. This initiative is pertinent to AZAM's misson of encouraging development communication in Sarawak.

The competition was renamed Writers Awards in 2007 to put emphasis on creative and thoughtful writing of the entrants.

.: ESSAY WRITING Competition :.

This competition aims to encourage students to contribute creative and critical ideas especially in the efforts of nation building. The competition aspires to uncover new talents in essay writing within the community in Sarawak.

In the light of the above scenario, Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM) proposes that the AZAM-PETRONAS Writers Award 2009 centres its themes and sub-themes on the spirit of the 45th anniversary of Sarawak’s progress in Malaysia and on the aspirations of the “2nd Wave of Development of Sarawak”.
