AZAM hopes to intensify its effort to facilitate development in Sarawak through promoting greater awareness on the importance of development communication.

The newly re-elected chairman of AZAM, YBhg. Datu William Patrick Nyigor said this in his acceptance speech at the organisation’s 39th Annual General Meeting held in Kuching this morning.

Also re-elected were Deputy Chairman YBhg. Dato Hajah Norhyati Mohd Ismail, Honorary Secretary Mohamad Ariff Irwani Azahari, and Honorary Treasurer YBhg. Dato William Wei How Sieng. Other elected board members were Associate Prof. Dr. Margaret Chan Kit Yok, Mdm. Norjanah Haji Razali, Mr. Sharkawi Yassin, Dr. Peter Mulok Kedit, Mr. Patrick Law Yong Ban, Mr. Charles Siaw, and Mr. Khairool Adzelan Bin Aman.

Datu William Nyigor added that in moving forward, AZAM will focus on several strategic areas including enhancing awareness on the importance of communication in development programmes and activities in Sarawak.

Also present during the AGM were YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr.) Haji Abdul Aziz Bin Dato Haji Husain, former chairman of AZAM and former deputy chairman of AZAM YBhg. Datu Dr. Hatta Solhee.

AZAM Sarawak has over 100 active members comprising government officers, professionals from various backgrounds, members of the private and corporate sectors, media practitioners, retirees and the youth.

Established in 1983, AZAM Sarawak is a non-profit and non-government organisation that seeks to facilitate development efforts in Sarawak through development communication. Its activities target mainly community leaders, rural communities, youth and women, development frontliners, media practitioners, school children and the general public.
