SMA-AZAM workshop builds on community awareness on digital economy in Kapit

KAPIT, July 4: Increasing innovations and development in digital platforms such as mobile commerce and online businesses has created vast opportunities in the marketplace, empowering entrepreneurs and startups with the opportunity to plan out their own marketing strategies, and connect them with a more diverse customer base from all over the world, leveling the playing field for SMEs and retailers alike.

In line with the Sarawak government’s intensive efforts to transform Sarawak’s conventional economy to a digital economy, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) in collaboration with Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak held the third edition of its Community Digital Initiative workshop series from 3-4- July 2019 in Kapit as part of a statewide campaign to spread digital inclusivity.

Conducted by representatives from government and private sectors such as SMA, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Center of Technical Excellence (Centexs) and local industry players, the workshop aimed to empower Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and entrepreneurs with relevant e-commerce marketing skills and netowrking that can enable them to mobilise their respective communities to initiate activities that promote and nurture the digital economy.

About 40 participants comprising selected JKKK members and local entrepreneurs from Kapit Division attended this one-and-a-half day workshop which aimed to provide a platform for local community leaders and JKKK to play their role as state development frontliners in motivating and mobilising their communities to be digital-ready.

To achieve this objective, a representative from SMA gave an overview of Sarawak’s digital economyh strategy to better facilitate participants’ understanding and implementation of digital initiatives with their communities.

Other workshop highlights were knowledge sharing sessions from successful industry players like apparel and accessories entrepreneur Neng Kho Razali, on how to leverage on digital platforms to market original Bornean designs to the international market, and agro-based entrepreneur Heineken Laluan on packaging, shipping, and selling local produce to global markets.

The first and second edition of the workshop was held in Lawas last year and in Bintulu in March 2019.

SMA media briefing in digital economy agenda

KUCHING: Digital inclusivity is one of the key elements in the Sarawak Digital Economy (SDE) to create a digital-ready community through awareness and knowledge building, developing digital skills and competencies as well as promoting inclusive digital participation, which are all vital to ensuring the implementation and smooth facilitation of the Sarawak Government’s digital economy initiatives especially in change management.

Sarawak Multimedia Authority to make open data analytical tools available to public once ready

KUCHING: Once deemed mature, SMA will make available analytical tools for open data to public.

SMA General Manager Dr Zaidi Razak said it was important for Sarawakians to have access and leverage from the open data analytical tool if they were to benefit from the state’s Digital Economy policy.

Media briefing on Digital Inclusivity

KUCHING: Digital inclusivity, whereby creating a digital-ready community through awareness- and knowledge-building, developing digital skills and competencies as well as promoting inclusive digital participation, are all vital to ensuring the implementation and smooth facilitation of the Sarawak Government’s digital economy agenda.

An important role to facilitating understanding among community stakeholders in the digital economy is by strengthening the media understanding of the key focus areas of the Sarawak Digital Economy. With that in mind, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) in collaboration with Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak and TV Sarawak is organising a half-day media briefing for the media called for Media on Digital Economy on 28 March 2019 in Kuching.

Manfaatkan media sosial sebar luas produk pelancongan

BINTULU: Pengusaha industri pelancongan perlu lebih agresif memasarkan produk pelancongan mereka melalui e-pelancongan dalam media sosial.

Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Samalaju Majang Renggi berkata, ini termasuk blog, WhatsApp, Facebook, AirBnB, Trivago, Agoda dan Booking.com yang merupakan aplikasi popular dalam industri pelancongan global pada masa ini.

Beliau berkata, pengusaha pelancongan pada era digital tidak dapat beroperasi secara berasingan, sebaliknya memerlukan rangkaian kerjasama dengan pihak lain terutamanya membabitkan penggunaan kemudahan aplikasi digital.

BINTULU: Kelebihan sebagai bandar minyak dan gas serta tempat yang ideal untuk dikunjungi pelancong antarabangsa dan domestik perlu dimanfaatkan sepenuhnya oleh pengusaha pelancongan.

Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri Samalaju Majang Renggi berkata, pengusaha-pengusaha pelancongan perlu mengambil peluang untuk mempromosikan bandar ini secara digital.

Katanya, Bintulu berada di kedudukan yang strategik apabila menjadi pintu masuk utama untuk ke Belaga, Murum, Tatau dan beberapa kawasan sekitarnya seperti ke Empangan Bakun dan Empangan Murum.

Youth encouraged to be bold and work for market exposure for digital business

KUCHING, November 9: Youth startups and creatives should be bold to put themselves out there to get market exposure and take advantage of available programmes for entrepreneurs and digital businesses.

In an interactive session with Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan during the first day of Kuching Youth Day Out 2018 (KYDO) themed “The Power of Leverage: How Youths Could Initiate and Inspire Change to Society and Government”, he spoke on the opportunities and challenges that face the youth group in urban and rural areas in the entrepreneurship and digital economy sectors.

“Now Sarawak has become a center for business people to come. The Peninsular Malaysia market has become too crowded. For those who are farsighted, they can see Sarawak as ‘lubok rezeki’ and the West Malaysian businessmen want to open up businesses here and do joint ventures with Sarawakians,” said Snowdan, who officiated the two-day youth programme from 9-10 November organised by Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak and youth volunteer group AZAM Young Souls.

About 85 participants from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, UiTM Sarawak, TedX Kenyalang and local youth attended the programme which saw youth entrepreneurs, startups, creatives and youth-driven outfits like HAUS KCH and The Champions inspire, influence and generate impact on young people to set and achieve higher goals for Sarawak.

In his opening speech, Snowdan commended KYDO for being in line with the state government’s aspirations to hold more creative and dynamic events to engage and inspire the younger generations as key stakeholders and partners in our development agenda.

“Events such as this, which take into consideration, very current trends, opportunities and challenges, are ideal platforms to nurture future leaders; leaders who are knowledgeable, innovative, dare to take risks, embrace high integrity, inclusive and visionary.”

The purpose of the Ngopi Ngeteh 2.0 portion of KYDO is to spark brainstorming and discussions among the youth groups, including on the best way to implement digital initiatives in various economic and socio-economic sectors within local communities.

“The youth have the opportunity to support development in many anchor sectors in Sarawak’s Digital Economy Strategy, which include but are not limited to, E-Commerce, Social, Tourism and even Agriculture.”

The objectives of the programme are to bring together Kuching youths from diverse backgrounds and interests to converse, perform and play together as part of a healthy lifestyle and social interaction, to get local youths to talk about current social and economic trends with a view to encourage the younger generations to contribute ideas and recommendations on moving forward; and to help provide a stronger unified front for the youths to be heard, to be engaged and included in the state’s development process.

It is hoped that this programme will drive youth development for Kuching and, Sarawak as a whole, to the next level, capitalising on Sarawak’s own unique gifts and strengths.

170 Miri JKKK members to attend Randau Digital

KUCHING, Oct 24: Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) in collaboration with Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak is organising a one-day workshop called Randau Digital themed “Ke Arah Masyarakat Digital” (Towards a Digital Community) in Miri on Oct 25.

Azam in a press statement said that this workshops is one of the ways to ensure that Sarawakian communities are well-equipped to participate in the fast-transforming global economy brought on by advancements in digital and communication technologies.

AZAM sertai jerayawara belia “Digital Inclusivity” anjuran UKAS dengan kerjasama SMA di Mukah

Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak telah mengadakan pameran bersempena dengan  Hari bersama belia Mukah dalam Ekonomi Digital anjuran Unit Komunikasi Awam Sarawak (UKAS) dengan kerjasama Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA)  pada 10 Oktober 2018 yang lalu. Tujuan program ini dijalankan adalah untuk mendekatkan fahaman ekonomi digital dalam diri belia Mukah.
